How much should you spend on celebrating the birth of your child? Some say that a baby shower should be modest and focused on getting gifts to help cut cost for new baby expenses. Others splurge and create a celebratory atmosphere where gifts are appreciated but not necessary. We chose the latter.
Our baby shower was held at a loft near downtown Chicago. The venue was gorgeous! My sister and mother collaborated on hosting and funding a portion of the shower. My husband and I took care of the other portion along with a few other additions including a videographer/photographer and DJ. We added some unique touches like frames and photos from our pregnancy shoot. The theme was teddy bear and I loved it.
What we may consider to be a splurge maybe meager coins to others and to some our baby shower may seem to be like the White House gala :). Take a look at the photos and video (at the end) as we celebrate the coming of our C3. Let us know how you planned your baby shower and your theme via our Facebook and Instagram pages.
3 Reasons Why We Splurged On Our Baby Shower
Overcoming A Previous Loss: The year before we were blessed with the birth of our son, we had a miscarriage. I was 6 weeks pregnant and it was one of the most difficult times in my life. The ladies at Southside Pregnancy Center took care of me emotionally, I will be forever grateful for them and the experience I had there. After receiving an exam, the doctors shared that there was nothing wrong and I would soon get pregnant again. But for us, it seemed like a couple of forevers before the next pregnancy test said Yes. Approximately one year later, our prayers were answered and the joy of becoming parents would soon be our reality.
Wanted A Celebratory Atmosphere: I love to dance! My husband surprised me with one of my favorite DJ’s, DJMikeP, he DJ’d for me at another event and I loved his style, his mixes and he always gets the crowd jumping. The DJ played along blooper sound effects as my sister hosted baby shower games, it was very interactive.
We Deserved It: We’ve been blessed with the ability to take care of the expenses of our son. Our goal was to celebrate the new addition to our family with our immediate family and friends. We deserve to have the things we deserve in life, especially when you work so hard to attain them.
At the end of the day, it’s up to you what you would like to spend for your shower. I would suggest that you don’t force your host to cover the entire expense. If you choose to splurge on your baby shower, be sure to pick up a portion of the tab as well. Remember to have fun, enjoy the food and the people around you. Create and capture memories that will last you a life time. I know my husband and I will cherish these special moments forever. See video and photos, below:
