2018 Free Museum Days In Chicago

Chicago has some of the most amazing museums to explore. I often visited many of these museums growing up and its always fun to see new adventures through the eyes of your child. Keeping the tradition going creates a lifetime of memories. Plus, who doesn’t love Free Museum Days In Chicago!

As a way to give back, museums offer free or discounted days. Often times, they are only available to Illinois residents and special exhibits may include fees.

Please note that free days can change at anytime so, please be sure to check the website of the museum to confirm dates and times. Now, mark your calendar and explore these awesome museums in Chicago.

The Art Institute of Chicago

Admission is free for Illinois residents 5-8 p.m. Thursdays. Kids 13 and under are always free.

Admission is free 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesdays for Illinois residents; kids 18 and under are always free

Loyola University Museum of Art

Admission is free on Tuesdays.

Smart Museum of Art

Admission is always free.


Chicago History Museum

Admission is free 12:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Chicago Children’s Museum

One of our favorite museums to visit with so many activities. I began taking Calvin at 6 months young. Free 5-8 p.m. Thursdays and the first Sunday of every month for kids 15 and under. Always free to kids under 1.

Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum

I love going to the butterfly exhibit here. Free Thursdays for Illinois residents. Kids under 3 are always free.


DuSable Museum of African American History

Admission is Free on  Sundays.

McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum

Admission is Free on Sundays.
