Chicago, the Windy City, boasts breathtaking skylines and stunning views. But for the ultimate bird’s-eye perspective, two iconic Chicago observation decks rise above the rest: 360 Chicago vs. Skydeck. As someone who recently had the exhilarating experience of visiting 360 Chicago (check out my YouTube video here and Instagram post here), I’m here to help you decide which one will take your Chicago adventure to new heights!
The View From Above: A Tale of Two Decks
360 Chicago Located at the top of the John Hancock Center, 360 Chicago offers a panoramic vista of the city that stretches for miles. You’ll be mesmerized by shimmering Lake Michigan, iconic landmarks like Millennium Park and the Willis Tower itself, and the vibrant tapestry of Chicago’s neighborhoods.
Skydeck: Perched atop the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), the Skydeck is the city’s highest observation deck. Its claim to fame lies in the heart-stopping glass boxes that extend outward from the building, allowing you to literally “step out” over the city.

360 Chicago vs. Skydeck:
1. Views of 360 Chicago vs. Skydeck:
- 360 Chicago: Offers unobstructed 360-degree views of the city, perfect for capturing stunning panoramas. You’ll see everything from the bustling downtown core to the serene lakefront.
- Skydeck: This deck boasts breathtaking views, especially from the glass boxes. However, due to the building’s structure, some sections might have limited visibility.
2. The Experience:
- 360 Chicago: Features an interactive experience with touchscreens providing information about city landmarks. It also has a sophisticated bar, Cloud Bar, perfect for a celebratory drink with a view.
- Skydeck: Focuses on the thrill of the glass boxes and the feeling of being suspended high above the city. It doesn’t offer additional interactive elements.
3. Accessibility:
- 360 Chicago: More spacious and comfortable for navigating with strollers or wheelchairs.
- Skydeck: It might feel slightly cramped, especially around the glass boxes.
4. Price of 360 Chicago vs. Skydeck:
- 360 Chicago is generally considered slightly more affordable than the Skydeck.
- Adult admission to 360 Chicago starts at $30, whereas Skydeck starts at $32.
Here’s my personal take:
My experience at 360 Chicago was truly incredible. The panoramic views were breathtaking, and the interactive elements like the touchscreens added a fun and educational element. The Cloud Bar offered the perfect opportunity to wind down after soaking in the sights and enjoying a refreshing drink.
Ultimately, the best choice depends on your priorities. If you crave unobstructed views and an interactive experience, 360 Chicago could be your perfect match. However, if the thrill of the glass boxes is a must-have, the Skydeck might be the way to go.
