This is a free event, and it’s perfect for picking up unique, handmade gifts from local vendors (the perfect head start on holiday shopping!). I love grabbing a warm apple cider and wandering the stalls filled with beautiful crafts, home goods, and treats. Even better, the market is right next to Wrigley Field, so you’re in the heart of some great neighborhood energy!

2. Get Spooked at Dungeon of Doom Haunted House

Date: Now through December 7
If you thought spooky season was over, think again! Dungeon of Doom Haunted House is keeping the thrills going until early December. It’s a little bit of a drive from downtown, but I promise it’s worth it if you’re a haunted house enthusiast. The attention to detail is incredible – from creepy actors to immersive sets, it’s genuinely one of the best haunts I’ve been to!

3. Skate at Millennium Park’s Ice Rink

Date: Opens November 15
The ice rink at Millennium Park opens up mid-month, and it’s the ultimate way to start the holiday season! I love lacing up my skates (or renting a pair) and taking in the gorgeous city skyline views. Skating here, especially in the evening with the twinkling lights all around, feels magical. And even if you’re just there to watch, grab a hot chocolate nearby to enjoy the festive vibes.

4. The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival is one of the great things to do in Chicago in November 2024

If you want to feel the holiday magic, the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival is where it’s at. Starting with a festive parade and ending with fireworks over the Chicago River, this is such a special event. I’ve been going every year, and I still get chills when they light up the trees along Michigan Avenue. Pro tip: find a cozy spot along the route early, so you get a great view without the crowd crush.

I can’t resist grabbing a bratwurst and a mug of mulled wine while exploring the cozy, festive stalls. Every visit feels like a mini European getaway, right in the heart of the city!

7. See the Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade

Date: November 28
The Thanksgiving Parade down State Street is such a joyful celebration of the holiday! There are giant balloons, marching bands, dancers, and, of course, Santa himself. It’s a great family event, and the energy is contagious. I love seeing the creativity and spirit of each performance. Plus, it’s a great way to start Thanksgiving Day before diving into all the turkey and stuffing.

8. Chicago Botanic Garden – Free Admission

The Chicago Botanic Garden is offering free admission on select days this month, and it’s absolutely worth the trip. The fall colors are beautiful, and it’s such a peaceful escape from the city. I like to take a slow walk around the Japanese Garden – it’s incredibly calming and a lovely way to take in the beauty of the season.

9. Celebrate Día de Muertos at the “Where the Past Is Present” Exhibit

Date: Throughout November
This exhibit is a beautiful tribute to Día de Muertos, with displays that honor the cultural significance of the holiday. The vibrant art, altars, and storytelling are really moving, and I highly recommend checking it out if you want to learn more about this tradition. It’s both educational and visually stunning.

10. Experience ZooLights at Lincoln Park Zoo

Date: Throughout November
ZooLights at Lincoln Park Zoo is a holiday classic that never gets old. The zoo transforms into a wonderland of lights, with millions of LED displays creating a magical atmosphere. It’s free to attend on certain nights, which is a huge plus. I love taking a stroll with friends or family, grabbing some hot cocoa, and just soaking in the festive spirit.

11. Catch Art on the Mart

– Date: Now through December 30, 7:30 pm – 8:00 pm
This outdoor digital art show on the Merchandise Mart’s facade is a true Chicago gem. The projections are mesmerizing, and it’s such a unique way to experience art. The themes change, so there’s always something new and interesting to see. It’s a quick stop but always a memorable one.

12. A list of great Things to do in Chicago in November 2024 can not lack of visiting a museum

This November in Chicago is packed with free days at some of the city’s best museums, making it a perfect month to dive into art, history, and science. Start with the Art Institute of Chicago, free on Nov. 4, 11, and 22, where masterpieces like American Gothic and Monet’s water lilies await. For a taste of natural history, the Field Museum offers free Wednesdays, showcasing Sue the T. rex and exhibits from around the world.

The Chicago History Museum, free on Nov. 5, 11, and 20, lets you step back into iconic moments like the Great Chicago Fire and jazz era. In the evenings, the Shedd Aquarium is free after 5 p.m. on Nov. 5, 12, 19, and 26, making for a tranquil experience with dolphins and penguins. Every Wednesday from 4 to 10 p.m., Adler Planetarium opens its doors for free, ideal for stargazing and enjoying lakefront views of the city.

13. Warm Up with Hot Chocolate and Bakeries

A November must-do for me is finding a cozy bakery to warm up with a delicious pastry and hot chocolate. A few favorites? BomboBar for their crazy-good hot chocolate and donuts, and Floriole Café & Bakery for a more classic, European-style treat. Nothing says fall comfort like a warm drink and a sweet treat!
